Alphas has been absolutely surprising this season. It has really been a case of not knowing what’s going to happen next. From a shocking character death to learning more about each of the characters, it’s been a roller coaster ride that has led up to tonight, the season finale.

I had a chance to chat with Alphas guest star Summer Glau, along with the show’s Executive Producer, Bruce Miller, about what we can expect to see tonight.

The Q&A began with a question to Glau about the character she plays on the show – Skylar. Glau said that the first thing that attracted her to Skylar was that she was a mother. “I had not played a mother before,” she stated. “And one of the most challenging things about Skylar is that she is a mother and it doesn’t come naturally to her.”

Glau continued, “When it comes to her child, she’s very conflicted she’s very conflicted because she has all of these new feelings that she’s probably never experienced before about loving something so much more than she loves herself. And caring for something and protecting someone else and making unselfish decisions.

“For me, as an actor, it was just a very, very fertile storyline for me creatively.”

Did Glau anticipate the success of the character and her continuing involvement with the series? She answered, “Well, I was hopeful. I don’t know when when I – my last job – but I love doing TV and I really like sticking with a character and getting to watch them evolve and contribute to a storyline that continues week after week.” She continued, “I would be very excited to come back next season.”

But even after that remark, neither Miller or Glau could confirm she could become a series regular.

Glau also talked a bit about why she’s drawn to working in sci fi. “I’ve always found in sci fi that the roles for women are really exciting and dynamic and outside the box.”

Miller talked about what happened with Rosen in last week’s episode. If you have been watching this season, Rosen has gone very dark, especially after the death of his daughter. Did Rosen go too far? last week, though? “I don’t know, can we ever come back from the bad things we do? I always think we can.”

How does Sylar play into tonight’s season finale? Glau said, “Well, she definitely integrates into the team more than she has in the past. I think it’s, you know, where Skylar left off in this last episode. I think it was a humbling and scary experience for her to realize that she’s not always in control and she was taken advantage of and she needed help.

“In the finale, you’re going to get to see her very awkwardly at times, become a part of a team,” Glau stated.

Miller was asked about the challenges of coming up with a season finale for the series. “Writing a finale is difficult because you feel like you’re writing the last act to 12 other episodes,” he said. “You’re not really writing an episode. It’s hard to find something that holds it together. Fortunately, according to Miller, Alphas has a great writing staff and he feels the finale was a wonderful group effort, even if it’s his name on this last episode.

To sum up about tonight’s season finale, Miller said, “It’s going to be great. But really, to tease it up, everything that you think we never actually go there, we go there. We’re actually going to do it. So I think it’s incredibly surprising and unpredictable.”

I can’t wait! And For those of you who are big fans of Glau (and Alphas), be sure to follow @AlphasSyfy on Twitter tonight – she will be live tweeting the episode live at 8/7c.

It sounds like Summer Glau had a blast filming Alphas and shes really looking forward to coming back for season 3.
Alphas is probably the best sci-fi shows on tv right now, hope it’ll get a third season.
