Syfy announces a 10-episode space opera called The Expanse.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve felt that Syfy is just missing something now that Warehouse 13 and Being Human are gone. Right now, the only thing I’ve been watching on the network is Defiance, which is still awesome, but I miss those days when I was buying episodes for more than one show a week on the network. So when they make announcements about new programming, I get excited.
Fortunately, the network just recently released details on a series called The Expanse. They’ve even called it a “space opera,” which makes me think lovingly of Battlestar Galactica. The new series will star Steven Strait and Shohreh Aghdashloo and is based on the book series of the same name.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until 2015 to actually see this thing, so anything could happen between now and then. Here’s the series description from the press release:
The Expanse is a thriller set two hundred years in the future. The series follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective (Thomas Jane) and a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait) together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.
I’m in, just because it is about time we saw more space-based science fiction on TV.
