Peter Capaldi could be the best Doctor yet, according to the BBC.
Oh, Doctor Who, I can’t stop fiending for new episodes. And although there’s this little rumor that you’re going to premiere in July, rather than August, that isn’t confirmed. So isn’t it just like the BBC to make it that much worse by telling us how awesome Peter Capaldi is in the role?
That’s exactly what the BBC did, too. The words being thrown around are “delighted” and “thrilled,” at least according to the Radio Times. And yes, people who have been watching Capaldi do his thing on-set are saying that he very well might be “the best Doctor yet.”
Are they trying to hurt us? Really? The BEST? And we still have to wait to see these new episodes? Why, BBC, WHYYYYYY?!?!?!?!
Those same sources are also reporting in that Capaldi has a great chemistry with companion Jenna Louise-Coleman, too. Of course, things are changed now that the Doctor is older, but that still didn’t stop the BBC folks from calling their connection “sizzling.” However, that is apparently not in a romantic way:
“He is the oldest Doctor and there is a sense he is more distanced from his assistant, more of a mystery He is perhaps less a mate, and someone she looks up to. She has to try and gauge him – but dramatically it’s very satisfying and onscreen they work very well together.”
I’ll have to admit that does sound pretty awesome. We haven’t had a Doctor/Companion relationship for awhile (since perhaps Donna and 10) and it seems like the Capaldi choice really is more of a throwback to the relationship the Doctor had with companions in the classic series.
So what do you think? Does this make you anticipate Capaldi’s premiere episode even more? And do you believe the rumors that we might see the series return in July? (Oh, please let that be true.)
