It’s that time of the year again. No, I don’t mean Valentine’s Day, I mean Gallifrey One! For those not in the know, this is the largest North American Doctor Who convention. It’s four days of cosplay and fun and meeting people involved with Doctor Who and is probably the best convention on the planet. Needless to say, I will be there.
For those who are also attending, please say hello. My current tentative cosplay schedule is: The Moment/Rose Tyler/Bad Wolf on Friday, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances Rose Tyler on Saturday and Dr. Grace Holloway on Sunday (subject to change, but I will be in one of those three costumes). I’ll also be co-hosting a panel with some wonderful people at 6 p.m. on Saturday about the state of science fiction television (something I blog about on a regular basis). Finally, I’m staying at the Hilton, so if anyone else got stuck there instead of the convention hotel, the Marriott, let me know.
I will be covering con events as I can here on the site, including posting a lot of cosplay photos and any exclusive information I can weasel out of panels and guests. There will be Inspector Spacetime coverage, and with Travis Richey promising a huge announcement, expect a post about that sometime during the weekend. I was hoping to set up some interviews with other guests, but my PR contacts couldn’t make that happen.
That leads me to my only complaint about Gallifrey One. I get it – it sells out every year so they don’t need the publicity, so press (well, press like me) isn’t really a priority. I understand they don’t want to give badges away, but they could do something like Geek Girl Con where press gets a discounted badge, but still pays for it. However, the thing is, most of us bloggers would pay full price and maybe even a little extra for a press room and a little time with the guests. I’ve asked about it, but still have received no response, which, honestly kind of sucks. But I still cover the con, because I love it, and it’s the reason this site ever started in the first place.
For those of you joining me at Gallifrey One, I hope to meet you and I know we’ll have lots of fun. For those not attending, I hope I can keep you up to date on con goings-on here on the site. Allons-y!
