Book Review: Once Upon A Time: Behind The Magic

Book Review: Once Upon A Time: Behind The MagicOnce Upon A Time: Behind The Magic is a magical book with beautiful photos, exclusive interviews and interesting tidbits about one of TV’s favorite fantasy series.

When Titan Books asked me if I would like a review copy of Once Upon A Time: Behind The Magic, it didn’t take me long to respond with a very ecstatic “Yes!” I’ve been a fan of the series since the first episode aired several years ago and I’m even cosplaying one of the characters, Emma Swan, at this year’s Geek Girl Con. To say I’m obsessed with the series is probably an understatement.

When I first saw the book, I immediately thought that it was gorgeous. The artwork on the cover and back is beautifully done, featuring characters from the show and some beautiful costumes (note to self: learn to sew for cosplay). ¬†However, the inside is even better. There are full character studies for each main character of the series, along with tons more photographs, along with interviews of the actors who portray those characters. There’s even an episode guide that goes all the way through the first two seasons. And it’s not just a summary of each episode – each episode gets a full run-down with photos.

Did I say something about gorgeous photos? This book is a Once Upon A Time cosplayer’s dream. Not only are there gorgeous photographs of some of the series’ amazing costumes, but there are also details about how they were chosen (including Emma’s famous red leather jacket) and details about the props that we see throughout the show.

There is also a lot of information about the show’s writing, its sets and its gorgeous special effects. Yes, this book is gorgeous and yes, I know I’ve already said that.

Needless to say, Once Upon A Time: Behind The Magic is a must-have for any fan of the series.
