(The following is a sponsored post.)

We’re not even halfway through the year, and the indie games that have already been released have proved to be some of the best titles to be found anywhere. The only negative thing you can say about the current state of indie games is that the number of quality picks out there is a little overwhelming. Choosing some favorites from amongst the fray can be quite a daunting task.

If you find yourself in this group, consider any one of these 3 best indie games of 2013:

Beat Buddy: The secret to Beat Buddy is that it’s addictive. It’s really, really, really addictive. The worst part about that is how easy it is to get into this game. You start out with a catchy beat, and the deceptively simple objective of maneuvering your character along a specific path. From that point, the game adds layers of music and challenge to the proceedings. It quickly gets to a point in which the gameplay is completely dependent upon the complexity of the music. It’s then that you realize how wonderfully challenging the game is.

Cannon Brawl: Strategy is the name of the game with Cannon Brawl. This is another intriguing game that handles the concept of deceptive simplicity beautifully. Beneath the cute graphics and 2D backgrounds lies a game intensely steeped in such the traditions of such titles as Star CraftWorms, and Combat. If you’re the kind of gamer who lives for managing resources down to the finest detail, taking nothing for granted every single tiny step of the way, then this is a game you need to add to your collection as quickly as possible.

Dungeon Hearts: Four rows of bright, colored dots are coming at you from the left. Manipulate the rows to create and eliminate rows of three matching dots. This is a pretty basic puzzle game formula, but that is perhaps the secret behind Dungeon Hearts, being one of the most ingenious indie games of the year thus far. The action is relentless, and the need to think on your feet as you move is constant. The point of using this puzzle element to destroy monsters, acquire new abilities, and keep your party alive and healthy is brilliantly handled. It’s very easy to find yourself completely overwhelmed by the pacing of this game.

The Next Indie Game Classic

There are already tons of incredible indie games to play right now. These 3 best indie games are just the start.
