Could Syfy’s Sinbad be the break-out fun series of the summer?
Sinbad, the new series from Syfy, has been under my radar. But after looking at the official launch trailer (below), I have to admit that I am now intrigued. Of course, the casting of Naveen Andrews (Lost) as Lord Akbari, doesn’t hurt.
So what is this new series about? After Sinbad (Elliot Knight) accidentally kills the son of powerful Lord Akbari (Andrews), he is forced to flee – under a curse – from his home town of Basra. Now unable to be on dry land for more than a day (thanks to the curse), Sinbad must travel the world to find a cure and return home. On board his new home – the ship, The Providence – an intriguing band of travelers is thrown together, including taciturn Norwegian sailor Gunnar (Elliot Cowan), the lithe and agile jewel-thief Rina (Marama Corlett), and haughty and aristocratic Nala (Estella Daniels). Completing the ship’s complement is the odd-ball cook and the cerebral doctor Anwar (Dmitri Leonidas).
It doesn’t sound half-bad, does it? Will you be watching?
Sinbad premieres on Syfy Saturday, June 8th at 9/8c.
