Congratulations to Elyse Miller for winning the Everybody Loves Tank Girl graphic novel.
This contest is now closed.
When Titan Books contacted me and asked me if I would be interested in a review copy of the new Everybody Loves Tank Girl graphic novel, I probably sent back the fastest “yes” email in the history of emails. I will admit that I haven’t read Tank Girl in a really long time, but I have fond memories of the foul-mouthed kick-butt gun-loving anarchist and her mutant kangaroo boyfriend Booga.
To start with, this book has one of the best introductions I have ever read in a graphic novel. We get a bleak look at what we’ve done to planet earth (along with a message of hope in a way that only Tank Girl could deliver it). But the introduction to the tank (and a reference to Justin Bieber) starts the graphic novel on the perfect note.
The stories themselves are what you would expect from Tank Girl . They are edgy and funny with a lot of swearing and a high body count. In other words, Everybody Loves Tank Girl is a perfect tribute to the queen of raucousness herself. From babysitting a little boy named Feldman Haim (no really) to Tank Girl and Booga tripping on LSD to a (rather educational) swearing competition, each little story is a testament to why Tank Girl has been around since 1988. Obviously, the title of this compilation, Everybody Loves Tank Girl, is a statement of a fact because I expect we’ll see Tank Girl for many more decades to come. She continues to embody the tongue-in-cheek rebel in all of us.
Of course, without great art to back up these hilarious stories, Everybody Loves Tank Girl would be nothing. Fortunately, Jim Mahfood has given life to this book in its art, using both black & white and color. And although, Tank Girl is sporting a few new looks, but all in all, she is still the same kick-ass gal we fell in love with back in the day.
What’s also great about Everybody Loves Tank Girl is that you don’t have to be familiar with the character to jump into the stories. The stories have always sort of been non-related and with the previously-mentioned introduction, you get a good idea of what she’s all about. So if you’re a Tank Girl newbie, never fear – there’s something here for everyone. Just don’t expect it to be safe for work.
