Actress Portraying Carol Ann Ford in Doctor Who Special Has Real First Doctor Connection
Filming has already begun on the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special, An Adventure in Space and Time. Not only will the special have an amazing cast that features David Bradley, Jessica Raine and Brian Cox, but it will also be written by Mark Gatiss.
But wait, there’s more! Because the iconic role of Carol Ann Ford has finally been cast, too. Ford portrayed Susan to William Hartnell’s Doctor in the early days of Doctor Who and is a pivotal character. So who do you get for that? Well, the BBC has announced that they’re going for a virtual unknown actress by the name of Claudia Grant.
But what makes Ms. Grant’s story so interesting is that she is represented by an agency that is run by First Doctor Hartnell’s real-life granddaughter Jessica Carney. It’s yet another one of those Doctor Who coincidences, isn’t it?
I can’t say that she looks a lot like Susan in her headshot, but once her hair is cut short, we’ll know for sure. Personally, I was rooting for Warehouse 13′s Alison Scagliotti as she is a dead ringer for Carol Ann Ford, but let’s face it – the BBC would never have put a North American actress in that role.
