New Star Wars Trilogy is Coming (But Are We Ready?)

Okay, so there’s a little bit of news involving Disney buying LucasArts that came out of today. No biggie, right? I think the bigger news, though, has to do with Disney plans for the Star Wars franchise.

Yes, that’s right, although George Lucas swore up and down there would be no more Star Wars films (because he’s too busy “fixing” the existing ones, probably), Disney announced today that a new trilogy is in the works. Star Wars, Episode 7 is set for release in 2015 with Episodes 8 and 9 to follow. Yep, that’s right. Revenge of the Jedi is getting a sequel!

Am I the only person who thinks this is kind of awesome? I feel that Disney and LucasArts are a good fit. If anyone can revive the Star Wars series, it’s Disney. And the even better news is that Lucas will only be acting as a creative consultant on the new movies.

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” Lucas said. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.”

No word has come out yet what the new Star Wars movie will entail, but Disney has stated a storyline is already in place for it.

So what do you think? How do you feel about new Star Wars movies? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Are you locking yourself in your basement and falling to your knees and screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOO!”
