S.H.I.E.L.D. gets a t.v. show thanks to ABC and Joss Whedon

It has already been reported that Joss Whedon was attached to a The Avengers-based television series by ABC, but now we have more information on that show. The show will be named S.H.I.E.L.D.

Full details, though, haven’t been confirmed and we don’t know which of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s characters will make the move to television, but I’m rooting for Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury on my t.v. set every week because… that would be all sorts of awesome. It would also be pretty sweet to see a few of The Avengers pop up from time to time. However, according to Comic Book Resources, the series will be mostly autonomous from the movie.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. series will be penned by Whedon, along with his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen. According to Deadline, production will be beginning immediately.

Look for S.H.I.E.L.D. sometime in 2013. I, personally, can’t wait! What do you think? Are you happy Whedon is returning to t.v. with this project?
