Maurice Sendak, author of the beloved children’s book Where the Wild Things Are, has passed away, according to The New York Times. Sendak had recently suffered from a stroke. He was 83 years old.
In 1964, Where the Wild Things Are was awarded the Caldecott Medal from the American Library Association. The book was finally made into a film in 2009.
In addition to Where the Wild Things Are, Sendak wrote and illustrated several other children’s books.
