I guess it’s official. The Muppets have made a grand old-fashioned Hollywood comeback. After the success of the last film, Walt Disney has announced in that there will definitely be a sequel to their 2011 film The Muppets.
As I stated in my review, I loved last year’s movie. Of all the movies that The Muppets have made, it was by far my favorite. Not only was it a throw back to my childhood, but it was also a new updated version of everyone’s favorite furries and pumped life into a franchise that had been allowed to unfairly die.
James Bobin, who directed last year’s movie, will return to direct the sequel, along with co-writer Nicholas Stroller. Unfortunately, Jason Segal is not expected to return (insert sad face here).
The best part? I believe we have the internet to thank for the success of the previous movie. It scored more than $158 million! And it all started with a viral video of The Muppets covering Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” That campaign continued with apps, presences on Facebook and Twitter.
The Muppets was also nominated and won a series of awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Heck yeah!
