SyFy and Trion World’s Defiance gets a t.v. cast

Last year, at E3, online game publisher Trion Worlds and SyFy announced they were developing the world’s first MMO game and scripted live action television series.

Set on a future version of Earth, Defiance introduces players and SyFy viewers to a world ravaged by conflict, where humans and aliens live together. The game combines the action of a console shooter with the scale and customization of an MMO, while its television counterpart gives us the story and drama of a classic science fiction epic. The game’s story takes place in San Francisco, while the t.v. series is set just outside of St. Louis, Mo. Because both exist in the same universe, the show and game will influence each other and work together to drive the overall story.

News has recently surfaced about the cast of the television series. Talk about a cast made in science fiction and fantasy heaven! No Ordinary Family‘s Julie Benz (also of Buffy, The Vampire¬†fame, as well as Dexter) has been cast with Jaime Murray (Dexter, Warehouse 13) for the series. Joining Benz and Murray will be Tony Curran (or to those of you in the know, Van Gogh from Doctor Who), Grant Bowler (The Cape, Lost, True Blood) and Stephanie Leonidas (MirrorMask). The television story will follow Bowler’s character, a law-keeper in a town that is “one of the new world’s few oasis of civility and inclusion.”

That sounds like a winning combination to me. I can’t wait to see both the series and the game come to fruition.
