‘Tis the time of year that all North American (and many European) Doctor Who fans converge on Los Angeles for the annual meeting of the minds, geeking out over a t.v. show and cosplaying until our hearts are content. Yes, it is time for the annual Gallifrey One convention.
The Gallifrey One con (or Gally, for short) is special to me as every time I’ve been, it’s been a part of my coming out of my shell and recovering from some pretty horrible life events. This year, though, it will be a celebration for me. A celebration of this blog (which I began right after last year’s con) and a celebration of embracing my geekdom and generally being a lot happier than I have been in years past. In the past year alone, I have created this blog, finished a novel and started working on an idea for a screenplay. I have been handed new opportunities from being a movie critic for the local newspaper to writing for DVICE.com to getting to go to the Sundance Film Festival.
In honor of that, I wanted to give back to the con this year. So I will be volunteering and will be helping out with both set-up and the Masquerade. I will also be cosplaying, as I’ve fallen in love with the Doctor Who cosplay community.
If you happen to be around Los Angeles this weekend and want to drop in, please check out the two panels I’m participating in, too:
Friday, 5:30 p.m. – TV Series You Should Watch
Saturday, 1 p.m. – The Games People Play
To those of you attending the con, I hope to see you all there. And please come up and say hello if you see me – I even have special FanGirlConfessions.com ribbons to hand out! I’ll be cosplaying as Rose Tyler on Friday, Lady Christina de Souza on Saturday and Dr. Grace Holloway on Sunday. See you there!
To those of you unable to go to Gally, I’ll be posting updates right here on the blog, as I can.
