With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story, pre-empted its showing at Slamdance (the alternative Park City film festival) by being picked up by EPIX. The documentary covers Lee’s life, from growing up during the Depression to becoming one the icon that he is today.
I am especially excited about this as I met the guys who made this film at Sundance while riding the shuttle bus into Park City one evening. They were genuinely excited about the film and its premiere. I was bummed to realize that I would miss Stan and the film by one measly day. I’m still a little disappointed I missed that one. I loved the passion they had.
Those guys also had some seriously cool posters, magnets, tattoos and fans. I personally liked the fan best as while carrying it around, it seemed to be a great conversation-starter.
The film features a long list of appearances, including Tobey Maguire, James Marsden (I was actually carrying my Stan fan around when I saw him), Nicholas Cage, Thomas Haden Church, Kenneth Branagh, Roger Corman, Kirsten Dunst, Jon Favreau, Kirsten Dunst and many many more.
To quote Indiewire.com: “The story of Stan Lee is the story of comics themselves.”
Be sure to keep an eye out for this one. I know it will be brilliant! And congratulations to the cast and crew.
