Alan Taylor, best known for directing episodes of Game of Thrones, has been selected to replace Patty Jenkins on Marvel’s Thor sequel, according to Deadline.
Jenkins had been the unlikely choice, but some of us had been truly excited that Marvel had finally decided to put a woman in charge of one of its films. I’m guessing they have now since changed their mind. Unfortunately, Jenkins left the film earlier this month due to that over-used cliche “creative differences.” although it’s now being reported that she was fired by Marvel for a “lack of clarity” in the film’s vision. Before that? Director Brian Kirk had left due to the same sort of differences. I’m getting a strange feeling that Marvel may be a little difficult to work with on this one, but that’s just me.
Now that Thor 2 has yet another director, Marvel is getting ready to take another shot at the script.
Also, one of the film’s stars, Natalie Portman, is pretty peeved about Jenkins leaving the film. Portman had been a strong supporter of Jenkins helming the project, but is still contractually obligated to appear in Thor 2. In fact, it seems Portman was considering taking a vacation from acting for awhile, but agreed to do Thor 2 because of Jenkins’ involvement. Man, that sucks, huh?
This one is starting to sound like a rough project to tackle and although I truly enjoyed Thor, I’m not sure it should be made. Maybe the universe is trying to tell Marvel something?
