It was a pretty big deal being able to announce the first woman to direct a Marvel movie, but now it seems like that may not happen. Patty Jenkins, who was set to take over the reigns from Kenneth Branagh for the Thor sequel, has stepped down from the project, according to ComicBookResources.com.
Citing the usual “creative differences,” Jenkins departure was reportedly amicable. There are rumors, however, that she may be directing another Marvel film, though, so all hope is not lost.
Jenkins is best known as the writer and director of Monster. Even before Marvel had made the announcement about her taking on Thor 2, she stated: “I think Marvel is really ballsy to think outside the box,” she said.
Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston are all set to return for the sequel, which Marvel Studios has said “will take Thor literally to other worlds.” The script is being penned by Don Payne, who co-wrote the first movie and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Thor 2 is set to open November 15, 2013.
