“Mongrels” on Hulu

It took me some time to catch on to the fact that Hulu was airing episodes of the UK series Mongrels, but once I noticed, I decided to give the show a look-see. I knew it was British and I knew it was a comedy but what I did not know was how hilarious it really was.

Mongrels revolves around the lives of five animals (all puppets) who hang around the back of a pub in London. The characters include a metrosexual fox, a self-centered Afghan hound, a mentally-challenged cat, a foul-mouthed fox and a mean-spirited pigeon. If that doesn’t sound like a recipe for a funny series, I don’t know what does.

If you’re a fan of things like Avenue Q, you need to watch this. Right now. Seriously, this show is irreverant and funny and no topic seems to be off-limits. In fact, my initial thought upon sitting down to watch the first episode is that Mongrels makes South Park look like a Disney film. Yes, it’s that wrong.

But it’s oh so right, especially if you have a sick sense of humor like me. Needless to say, this show is not kid-friendly, so make sure the children are in bed when you watch.

And the show is on Hulu right now. Be sure to catch it. And new episodes go up every Monday.
