Beetlejuice is one of those movies that everyone I know loves. And we’ve all wanted a sequel since we saw the original, haven’t we? Well, wait no longer! Warner Brothers has gone on record as stating that the world’s most lovable ghoul will finally return for a second film.
Deadline reports that David Katzenberg and Seth Graham-Smith of KatzSmith Productions have signed a deal with Warner Brothers for the film. One of their first projects under contract is the Beetlejuice sequel. If you don’t know who Graham-Smith is, pick up a copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, both of which are novels he wrote.
According to Graham-Smith: “We want to make big movies based on big ideas and inspired by the comedies we grew up loving. The thing we like about Bad Robot and Imagine is that they are never pigeonholed because they do good work across a broad spectrum. We want to slowly grow into a company that follows in those footsteps.”
And why not? Hollywood is officially out of new ideas anyway, aren’t they?
Of course, there was a sort of sequel to the original film in the form of a cartoon series. But apparently, not a lot of people remember that. I do, however. I even have an old Beetlejuice coloring book. Really.
My only demand is that Michael Keaton return to the title role. Otherwise, it will probably suck. And while we’re at it, I’d like to see Winona Ryder return as Lydia, too. How awesome would that be?
