I love J.J. Abrams. I loved Lost and I’m an avid watcher of Fringe. I loved his treatment of Star Trek and still think Super 8 is one of the best films I had seen in quite some time.
However, his last t.v. series, Undercovers, was not something I loved. Why? Because there was no element of mystery to it, no hints at the supernatural and I had to question why he decided to do a show about something as banal as a married couple who were spies. It was so unlike him.
We are in luck, though. This fall, Mr. Abrams is giving us Alcatraz. Not only does it feature Jorge Garcia as one of its stars, but it also looks to be a return to the sort of thing that he does best: supernatural-ish horror mystery. The “chilling new thriller centers on America’s most infamous prison and one-time home to the nation’s most notorious murderers, rapists, kidnappers and thieves.”
Alcatraz premieres on Fox in January, 2012. Here’s a trailer:
