Star Wars: Force Unleashed II

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed IISo I started playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. And I was sort of hoping for something different from the first game in the series. The story of Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, was really interesting to me. Or at least the idea of it. But the actual follow-through of the story, especially in the second game, only leaves me feeling “meh.”

This is a hack and slash game (with the force, though), more than anything.¬†However, you start the game out as already being all-powerful in the force, so leveling up force skills doesn’t really even seem to make much of a difference. In the first game, you at least had to start out as a weakling and work your way up.

Honestly, on normal mode in the second game, I feel like I’m god-moding without really intending to. I don’t say this often, but the game is almost too easy.

Again, back to storytelling…, so far, there’s not much of it. It feels like they really had never intended for Starkiller’s story to extend beyond the first game, but because of the first game’s popularity, decided to stretch it out a little longer to make more money. There’s just not much of anything really going on in the second game to keep me interested for long periods of time.

The best thing I can say about this game is that I like Sam Witwer as Starkiller. And that the game’s design is really nice and the graphics are really good.

But without a good story and interesting gameplay, I’m calling this one little more than a button-masher.

Fortunately, I hear that, like its predecessor, it’s relatively short, so I should have it completed in about six hours.
